Bay Leaves (Laurel)

Bay Leaves are the whole dried leaves of Laurus nobilis L. obtained from Turkey. The pale green and occasionally brown hued leaves shall be stiff and brittle and shall have a smooth and slightly shiny surface while the underneath part of the leaf shall appear dull in color. The leaf shall be elliptical in shape, tapering to a point at base and tip of leaf, and shall possess a pleasant odor and an aromatic, bitter taste. Bay Leaves shall be made of the true vegetable portion of its volatile constituents have been exhausted.
